In my research I came to wonder – can a fireplace be too big? I look at this fireplace and while we can all feel the grandeur I wonder whether there are not two competing ideas here – the intimacy of a fireplace and the large size of a fireplace. Given the scale of the room a large fireplace might seem appropriate. Too often I see fireplaces that are disproportionately big for the room. With fireplaces – making it big does not make it better I feel.
