After installing several different designs of crown and ceiling moldings in our home we decided on something special for our kitchen.My first Coffered ceiling it took about 3 weeks of an hour here an there………..

Hi Superlifeboat, I plan on taking up this project, my ceiling is a perfect rectange, I plan to do this in my living and kitchen(nothing dividing them)I was wondering if MDF 1x6x8 would work? since I plan on painting it besides the crown moulding/beading. If I use the above specs. for 4pcs I would get a box shape( perfect square), would that look weired?, since the skin you used to enclose the 3pcs is definitely wider, therefore you get a rectange shape look. Please advise

great job.. i would have painted it the same colour as the ceiling however.
this is simply the best tutorial on coffered ceilings I have seen….great job and you made it look so easy…however, I know its not that easy! thx again!!

What thickness is the plywood.

Size of plywood is 4×8 sheet of skin thickness which is about 1/8 thick……………
Fan can be purchased at “Lamps Plus” really moves the air around, not just straight down…………
Powered screw gun and air gun for nailing seemed to help not being stuck with my head and neck upside down to long . If I was in business a roll around platform is what I would purchase for sure………

So, how does your neck feel after standing on a ladder and looking up while installing the ceiling? Or, is there a better way to do this? I am about to attempt similar ceiling treatment for the entertainment room, and the one thing I am dreading is the “pain in the neck” syndrome from holding, positioning, nailing all the beams and crown in place. Any ideas (in lieu of just using Ben Gay), would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks…….Well I cut them from 4’x8′ plywood first so the boxes are 8 feet long to begin with before cutting some for the installation of course at where the cross other beams. The boxes are 7 inches wide and 5 inches deep at the sides. Why 7 inches wide ? Because the oak facing could be cut that size out of a 4×8 sheet with minimal waste….. Thanks for positive comments
